Octavian, 44-27 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.54 g, 8 h), uncertain mint in Italy (Rome?), 30-29. Bare head of Octavian to right. Rev. Facade of the Curia Julia with a tetrastyle porch; on the architrave IMP•CAESAR; in pediment, figure seated front between animals; on apex of roof, Victory standing front on globe, head to left, holding a wreath with her right hand and vexillum with her left; at each end of architrave, statues standing, each holding a parazonium and a scepter. BMC 631. Cohen 122. RIC 266. Nicely toned and with a charming portrait. Very fine.

The construction of the Curia Julia, the new senate house, began under Julius Caesar in 44 BC. It was completed and dedicated by Octavian on 28 August 29 BC.
